Tom he remained committed to achieving his ideal of perfect boating, which involved long-haul coal contracts like those down the Oxford Canal to Banbury and Oxford. Foxon successfully operated as an owner-boatman until 1959, when he sold his business and became a captain in the British Waterways Midland fleet. Eventually, he left the canals boating to pursue other interests.
