TI instead of ES 417 TI Desert Pilot, 42 mm With the new 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition, Hanhart presents the first-ever 417 crafted from Grade 5 titanium – replacing the classic stainless steel traditionally indicated by the “ES” designation. The matte finish of the case emphasizes the instrument-like character and gives the chronograph a modern, technically driven aesthetic. Available in 39 mm and 42 mm, each limited to 200 pieces, this model combines historical pilot’s watch DNA with contemporary material technology and uncompromising mechanics. FOR MODERN EXPLORERS LIGHTWEIGHT, ROBUST, COMFORTABLE Inspired by historic pilot chronographs, the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition combines lightness, durability, perfect legibility and maximum wearing comfort – designed for modern explorers. For the first time in its history, Hanhart uses Grade 5 titanium for a case: a material renowned for its combination of low weight, high strength, and excellent corrosion resistance. It is significantly lighter than stainless steel, yet extremely durable, skin-friendly, and resistant to sweat, saltwater, and temperature fluctuations – making it ideal for long-lasting, comfortable timepieces. FLYBACK, COLUMN WHEEL, MANUAL WINDING AMT 5100 The watch is powered by the hand-wound AMT 5100 caliber, a column-wheel chronograph with flyback function, designed for maximum precision and reliable performance. The sapphire display case back offers a clear view of the complex interaction of the mechanical components. In addition to the stop-seconds function, it offers a power reserve of at least 48 hours when fully wound. AESTHETICS OVER LUMINOSITY LET’S BE HONEST … The hands and numerals of the Hanhart 417 TI Desert Pilot, 39 mm are coated with Super-LumiNova®. Nevertheless, we have to admit: legibility in the dark is quite limited due to the dark underlying base color. For us, the focus of this chronograph was its aesthetic appearance in daylight rather than maximum luminosity at night. The hands are noticeably easier to read than the numerals, though still not comparable to luminous material applied on a light background. PRIMUS DESERT PILOT THE INSPIRATION The inspiration for the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition combines the historic 417 ES with the modern PRIMUS Desert Pilot. Its sand-colored dial, sandblasted case, and robust textile strap reflect both the aesthetics and functionality of the desert. The watch also gained recognition through rally driver Stephan Schott, who wore it during extreme off-road events such as the Dakar Rally. DISTINCTIVE SIZE, MAXIMUM WEARING COMFORT Despite the strongly domed sapphire crystal, we maintained a case height of only 13.6 mm. Our goal was to design the 417 TI Desert Pilot, 42 mm as slim as possible to achieve a presence on the wrist that is distinctive, yet not oversized. THE ICON FROM THE PAST THE LEGENDARY 417 The historic Hanhart 417 ES is considered one of the defining pilot chronographs of the 1950s. Originally developed for military use, it combined robust construction, a precise chronograph function, and excellent legibility—qualities that quickly made it a reliable instrument for pilots. With its distinctive design and characteristic fluted bezel, the 417 ES became an icon in Hanhart’s history and is today a highly sought-after vintage chronograph among collectors. FKM RUBBER MAXIMUM WEARING COMFORT At the wrist, a rubber strap with a subtle woven texture ensures sporty comfort and a distinctive technical look. It combines flexibility with high durability and emphasizes the instrument-like character of the watch. The overall design is completed by a pin buckle made of Grade 5 titanium. 10 BAR WATER RESISTANCE HANHART SHOCK PROTECTION With a water resistance of up to 10 bar / 10 ATM according to DIN 8310, the watch is designed for modern everyday use and remains reliable even under demanding conditions. The Hanhart shock protection additionally safeguards the movement against impacts and enhances the chronograph’s overall robustness.
